A nutrition app that estimates the weight of each ingredient in a packaged food.
The goal
The client needed an app built around its own algorithms: given a packaged food, estimate the weight of every ingredient in it. That work had to run against a database of 2.3 million packaged food items, which meant holding a large amount of reference data and keeping the queries over it from turning into a tangle.
How it works
The algorithms run in .NET Core and C#. Requests pass through mediators that separate commands from queries, so the estimation work and the lookups stay apart as the data grows. The food data sits in PostgreSQL, built code first with EF Core. Azure hosts the service, with Google Vision and AWS S3 alongside it.
